Call Young Researcher Groups

 

The objective of the “Young Researcher Group (YRG)” program of BioTechMed-Graz is to support the efforts of the most exceptional and promising postdoctoral fellows within BioTechMed Graz to launch an independent research group. The program thus aims to bridge a common career gap between the postdoctoral stage and scientific independence. Successful YRG PIs are expected to become competitive candidates for national and international tenure track positions in academia. The program should also enable YRG PIs to acquire additional competitive research grants.

The deadline for the submission of project proposals was April 19, 2019.

Who and what will be funded

  • YRGs will be established on the basis of excellent interdisciplinary, inter-university research proposals
  • Postdocs who have worked for at least 2 years in one of the BioTechMed-Graz research areas
  • Time period between completion of the PhD degree and the application deadline should
    not exceed eight years
  • Time spent on child-care, compulsory military or civilian service or
    long-term illnesses are considered as an interruption of scientific/scholarly career track.
  • no tenure track position
  • Applicants must be Associate Members of BioTechMed-Graz
  • Only one proposal per person
  • Proposals from female postdoctoral researchers are especially welcome
  • Affiliation to thematically related organizational unit at one of the partner universities
  • Applicants must have been employed by one of the partner universities during the
    last half year.

Funding

  • Max. funding per group: 660,000 EUR for 4 years
  • Funds may be used to finance personnel, equipment, core facilities, travel, consumables etc.
  • Funding will be available starting in November 2019.

Evaluation

  • The evaluation will be a two-step process with in-depth evaluation by reviewers nominated by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF)
  • Public presentation of the competitive projects (15.10.2019)
