Faculty Club

The BioTechMed-Graz Faculty Club offers a platform for interdisciplinary exchange and networking to all full and associated members of BioTechMed-Graz in the form of "casual evenings". Additionally to these "casual evenings", the event series includes "BioTechMed-Graz Flagship Lectures". The Faculty Club takes place on the third Wednesday of every month at 5.00 p.m. at the "Mensa Rooftop" of TU Graz, Stremayrgasse 16, 5th floor.

Current event
The next BioTechMed-Graz Flagship Lecture will take place on October 20th, 2021 at 5 pm. Within the Faculty Club, Principal Investigator Dr. Brigitte Pertschy will present the flagship project "Dynamics of subcellular partitioning through protein modification (DYNIMO)". The event will take place at TU Graz (Kopernikusgasse 24, Lecture Hall E). Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we kindly ask you to register and provide your contact details by 18.10.2021.

Please note that the event can only take place with a limited number of participants and in compliance with the appropriate safety and hygiene regulations. Participation is only possible with a valid 3 G certificate. In addition, please be aware of the FFP2 mask requirement when entering the building, in all public areas and when entering/leaving the event room. Past Events:

After a long break due to Covid-19, the first casual evening of the BioTechMed-Graz Faculty Club took place on September 15, 2021 at 5pm. In the beautiful late summer weather, the participants enjoyed the personal exchange in the Rooftop Mensa. 

Dr. Andreas Bergthaler from the Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (CeMM) gave a flagship lecture on “One year into the pandemic: what have we learned about SARS-CoV-2 mutational dynamics and how may this impact the future?” on May 19, 2021 at 5 pm

Dr. Bergthaler provided an overview of current SARS-CoV-2 genomic research (as of May 2021) and fundamental scientific insights into the infection biology of the pandemic virus. This included new insights into how the virus spreads within epidemiological clusters as well as its ability to evade immune responses. (Digest - German only)

The BioTechMed-Graz Flagship Project "Inflammatory Mechanisms in Diabetes Uncovered by Tissue Imaging and Machine Learning - MIDAS" was presented on the April 21, 2021 by Principal Investigator Prof. Thomas Pieber (Med Uni Graz). The first Online BioTechMed-Graz Flagship Lecture took place on February 17, 2021 at 5.00 pmProf. Florian Krammer, Professor of Vaccinology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai talked about the human immune response to SARS-COV-2, vaccine development and the impact of viral mutations in his lecture "Immunity to SARS-CoV-2".
