In the context of the higher educational structural resources of the Ministry of Science, three projects of the Medical University of Graz as lead partner and the University of Graz and Graz University of Technology as cooperation partners are being supported to the total sum of 4.4m euros.

Upgrade of the 3 Tesla research MRI scanner
The 3-Tesla MRI scanner which was installed at the Medical University of Graz in 2005 for intensified research in the field of psychology and neuroscience has been upgraded to the state of the art. The upgrade renders it compatible with the existing BioTechMed-Graz 3 Tesla MRI scanner purchased by the University of Graz and installed at Graz University of Technology. The shared and reciprocal use of two MRI scanners enables the three universities to carry out synergistic and translational research. The acquisition of the components and the adaptation of the existing system were carried out in 2014.

BioImaging Graz: Center of Excellence for Super-Resolution Microscopy and Cellular Ultra-Structure Research
The objective of this project is to establish a center of excellence for super-resolution microscopy and cellular ultra-structure research as a structural measure for research in Graz. New technologies such as SIM, STORM and multiphoton microscopy are being established and existing appliances upgraded to the cutting edge. On top of this, the already established integration of imaging techniques, image processing, modeling and simulation in biological and biomedical research should be built on and expanded. In the framework of the Nikon Center of Excellence which was established jointly by the Medical University of Graz and the University of Graz three high-performance microscopes were bought from the Nikon company.

Omics Center Graz
The Omics Center Graz bundles the expertise and existing infrastructure in genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics/lipidomics, as well as bioinformatics. Special emphasis is put on bioinformatics and measurement capacity, in order to perform more comprehensive omic studies and multi- omic projects.

To this end, four mass spectrometers with different specifications (a high-resolution Q-TOF instrument, an ion-trap and two triple quadrupole devices) were acquired in 2015.
